Whale Watching
Witness the epic journey of gray whales, from the feeding grounds in the Bering Sea to the mating and breeding lagoons, the whales make their way right past Shelter Cove.
Sport Fishing
If you don’t have your own boat, there are ample chances to fish from the shore or be part of a group fishing charter. Fishing licenses can be purchased at The General Store in Shelter Cove.
Hiking
Black Sands Beach to Mattole. 24.6 miles, mostly level. The Lost Coast Trail offers one of the few coastal wilderness hiking experiences, spectacular scenery in the United States.
Surfing
Shelter Cove surfing is diverse. A popular place to surf in Shelter Cove is at Dead Man’s Beach about a mile down the beach from the boat launch at Shelter Cove Beach.
Tide Pools
Visit Mal Coombs Park right next to the Inn and explore the intertidal tide pools. Watch the sea life go about their daily lives in the tide pools. Watch for seals and sea lions on the rocks.
Mountain Biking
The Paradise Royale trail system is an amazing way to experience the Lost Coast of Northern California. The trails have been designed and built for a mountain bike optimized experience.
Golf
The Shelter Cove Golf Links are located a short walk from the Oceanfront Inn. It is a nine hole links course covering 2,428 yards. The ocean can be viewed throughout play.
